Starting a new school

Starting a new school
« on: October 30, 2008, 06:07:45 PM »

One of my personal goals is to open a new school from scratch here in Chicago. Needless to say, I need tons of advice and support. My first question for all of you is this:

What do think is the optimal age/grade for students of a new school? Pre-school, Elementary, Junior High or High School??
Keep in mind that this school will be based on an entirely new framework to prepare students for a new kind of world order where boundaries, languages, politics, and even faith, which is crucial, will take on a completely different perspective. If any one would like a few specifics please send me a message.
peace.

Well if your going to start from the groung up.. Then start from the begining. Start from pre-school. A big problem i our community is our kids don't have a good grasp on the fundementals. I mean reading, math and language. These blocks are critical for sucess in higher education. They must also have these fundementals to compete in the global economy we live in. One big stat that jumps out at me is. China produces 300,000 students that major in math and science. We only produce 25,000. We must be better prepared to match the output that is coming from India and china. So I say start them now. Our future standard of living will depend on it...

I happen to agree.  If you want to make major change and are not in a time crunch start from Pre-School.  If you are attempting to make changes now you can start in Junior HS and HS.  There is a enourmous amount of young people who are gifted and very intelligent but due to being chracterized by other issues, their gifts are not being stimulated and are overlooked.  I think you can make major change with the JHS and early HS students. Sometimes all children need is the support and motivation.
